Originally purchased at Mercedes Benz-Manhattan New York. Last 2 ownership hands have resided in South Carolina and Southern California. Driven sparingly as a vacation or weekend car. These 124 Cabriolets were produced in low numbers and are getting harder to find especially in this condition with full documentation from new. The dark over light color scheme contrast gives it an elegant looking advantage.
Beautiful black exterior paint shines deep and looks beautiful. All body panels line up straight and even.
The interior looks very well preserved and has a nice Mercedes original leather scent still present. There are no rips, tears or damage on the plush upholstery and patina age looks natural. The driver’s seat bottom does show some light wear due to more frequent use than other seats. There are no cracks or sun damage on the original dashboard. Instrument cluster shows bright orange gauges without sun fade. Wood highlights have aged well still showing excellent color. The last owner purchased Coco brand mats and they match beautifully with the natural beige carpet.
Truly a superb vehicle to drive, this highly engineered MB Cabriolet drives excellent as one would expect at just over 60,000 miles. Wonderful acceleration, strong torque, and crisp shift quality. It steers tight and tracks straight down the highway. The suspension feels supple and tight. This one is special.
The power top goes up and down without issue. The fabric top looks nice and shows very nice condition. The interior liner, while matching the interior color, is in fine shape.
AC blows very cold and correctly on all fan speeds.

Sold new in Carlsbad, CA. by Hoehn Motors-Mercedes Benz. Final model year USA 450SL Just arrived in this rare color scheme, Thistle Green over Cream. Beautiful looks and extensive service history. We have a 3 ring folder full of records, spanning 4 decades back to new purchase in 1980, that has been preserved through prior ownership.
Paint shows bright shine and luster. A good quality respray was conducted by prior ownership in the factory color. A nice alternative to your typical colors, Thistle Green is impressive to the eye.
All orignal MB glass. The brightwork shows well with a few close up nicks.
A cream interior is an excellent contrast inside the cabin. We installed new OEM replacement MB-Tex seats in matching cream (235). Additionally, we had the seats fully refurbished including rebuilt springs and new padding. The original dash-pad shows no damage. The wood still has nice deep color and presents well. Door cards look to be in excellent condition. The matching lighter cream stock carpet shows well.
The original Becker AM/FM radio with cassette player is currently not working. We will try and source the issue.
The AC is not currently operating and will be checked further.
The brown soft top was replaced according to records in 2001. The canvas shows very well as it appears to have been sparsely used.
Still wearing the factory issued 14 inch Bundt style alloy wheels in nice condition. Newer correctly sized BF Goodrich tires showing negligible wear.
Tidy trunk area, light color original carpet is good. Spare tire well storage area is very clean.

Upgraded option ordered on this 1985 later model included SRS driver airbag. For the last 5 years the vehicle was owned by an Airforce serviceman and was primarily garaged while he travelled on various tours.
Beautiful deep lustrous paint. Excellent chrome and all original MB glass.
Perfect original dash pad. Interior shows gorgeous original time capsule condition reflecting a garaged vehicle. Both original issue Palomino leather seats show correct patina and color without separation, sag or harsh use. Door cards look like new condition and show virtually no wear. Hardtop headliner is perfect like new. Burl wood is overall in very nice shape. Carpet is beautiful. Double vanity mirror visors are perfect showing no use or color fade. A JVC head unit was installed with speakers wired in the rear area by previous ownership.
The soft top is the original Mercedes polyglas issue and shows like new condition as it was never used with a minor tear at rear window seam.
Engine runs impressively well. The drive quality and handling are superb on this low mileage well kept SL. Nice shift quality, excellent acceleration, powerful torque and tight steering.
AC blows cold air on correct fan speeds even in high temperature conditions.
The underside is consistent with a west coast owned vehicle showing very clean with zero corrosion.
Deep red seatbelt fasteners. Intrument cluster shows no sun or light damage.
Factory 14 inch alloy wheels in excellent condition over Michelin tires with good tread.
Engine bay is extremely tidy and clean with factory anodized gold metal still strong and bright. Rubber parts and hoses still remain firm and flexible not dried and aged.

Originally imported by first ownership from Germany into Georgia, USA in 1985 with the most recent ownership in San Antonio, Texas and Southern California. This 280SL 107 was originally designated to the Saarbruecken branch in Germany. Produced in far less numbers than other 107 models the 280SL topped out production at approximately 25,000 units between the 1974 and 1985.
Original dash pad shows minor wear. Under previous ownership, the following interior items were refurbished: Brand new period correct carpet throughout entire cabin in off white color. New Lloyd floor mats. Brand new cream beige leather seats. Rear factory kinder seat was removed and that surface area was re-carpeted. The kinder seat was not kept. Upon our acquisition the shift consul burl wood was completely and professionally restored to its deep cherry original color by highly reputable Madera Concepts in California.
The body is very straight and shows proper fitment and panel alignment throughout. Paint shines nice and shows good even color.
The blue German canvas soft top is in good shape without tears or rips and shows bright color.
AC has been converted to 134 system and is fully recharged blowing cold air at proper fan speeds. There is a Kenwood head unit with AM/FM HD radio, USB, Blue tooth, cell phone connectivity and a few other modern options. It is hooked up through the front speakers and audio is correct with factory set up.
Delightful high revving 110 inline 6 cylinder motor that was not available in the USA. 4 speed automatic gearbox. It is highly desirable to pilot if you are not familiar and positively changes the handling and feel due to less weight load. It translates to an extremely nimble performing drive quality. Firm power steering without play. Very responsive throttle, solid driveline and straight full power at all speeds. The gearbox shifts crisp through all gears.
Fitted with correctly sized factory recco’d 195/70/14 tires. There are 4 color matched Mercedes steel disc wheels that give a vintage early 107SL look.

The Black (DB-040) paint has deep shine and luster. All surfaces are silky smooth without oxidation or clear coat fade. All body panel fitment is straight and even. Every factory VIN body tag is matching and still in place. Trunk bolts are untouched.
